Synopsis:
Growing up in post-war bucolic Armidale, Peter Allen stood out. He was a born performer with innate musical ability and a mischievous smile. His mother, Marion Woolnough (Rebecca Gibney), adored him but his father, Dick Woolnough (Nick Farnell), had little time for his son. After being discovered by superstar Judy Garland (Sigrid Thornton) while performing in a duo with Chris Bell (Rob Mills) called the Allen Brothers, Peter was suddenly on the road to Hollywood stardom. He soon reached mainstream audiences with the hit songs 'I Go to Rio', 'Tenterfield Saddler' and the unofficial Australian anthem 'I Still Call Australia Home'.
