Synopsis:
Adapted from Irwin Shaw's best-selling novel, this Emmy-winning mini-series tells the story of brothers Rudy (Peter Strauss) and Tom (Nick Nolte) Jordache. Beginning in 1945 and moving through to the 1960s, we see how the two brothers follow very different paths in life, one becoming wealthy and successful, the other facing ruin and destruction. The series also chronicles many of the most important events in the latter half of the American century, including the McCarthy witch hunts, the Korean war, the birth of the Civil Rights movement and the student riots of the 60s.

The small screen adaptation of Irwin Shaws best selling 1970s novel Rich Man, Poor Man was an epic television event, the first-ever blockbuster miniseries and a huge ratings hit when screened in Australia in the late 70s. Winning 4 Emmys and 4 Golden Globes, and with a stellar ensemble cast including Nick Nolte, Susan Blakely, Peter Strauss and Ed Asner, Rich Man, Poor Man recounts the lives of immigrant brothers Rudy (Strauss) and Tom (Nolte) Jordache for two decades following WWI. One will gain great wealth and power, the other will struggle through life as a boxer and gangster thug; but both continue an epic struggle to gain the love of Julie Prescott (Susan Blakely).

An examination of the trials and tribulations of the Jordache family, from the period following World War II to the late 1960s.
