Synopsis:
Here Is Your Life: Based on a semi-autobiographical novel by Nobel Prize-winning novelist Eyvind Johnson, Here's Your Life tells the story of a working-class boy coming of age in rural Sweden during the first World War. Director Jan Troell's striking visual style is on display, as are cameos from some of Swedish cinema's biggest stars. Who Saw Him Die?: A weak and tormented teacher is pushed to the limit by his obnoxious students. Bang!: Magnus is divorced and has an affair with an art teacher at the school where he works. When he thinks she's pregnant, he is worried because he is in love with another woman. The Flight of the Eagle: The Swedish 19th century engineer S. A. Andrée sets out to become the first man on the north pole. His idea is to launch a polar expedition using a hydrogen balloon, together with two friends. The balloon, 'The Eagle', takes off from Svalbard in 1897, but the three men are not heard of again. Land of Dreams: When the daughter Johanna is born in 1983, Jan Troell tells the story about his childhood Sweden and how things were when he grow-up in the land of fairy tales and potential prosperity. The Captain: The film is based on a true occurrence in Sweden in 1988. A Finish couple murdered a young boy and his parents when they prevented the theft of the son's bicycle. The film tries to describe the relationship between the dominant Jari, who calls himself 'Il Capitano', and his more mature 'soldier' Minna, that develops into mutual dependence. A Frozen Dream: Poetic documentary about the polar expedition of S. A. Andrée (1897) which Troell had dramatized in 'Ingenjör Andrées luftfärd' (1982). Some of the photos are authentic pictures preserved in the final camp of the expedition, and recovered in 1930. Summer War: A long iron ore train passes across a vast marshland in Lapland. The steam locomotive needs some lubrication, so the train makes a short stop at a small station out in the wilderness.
