Synopsis:
Don Coscarelli's (Phantasm, Bubba Ho-Tep) cult sword and sorcery epic is a bold tale of witchcraft, spectacle and revenge, where barbarians jostle for power and nature is a force to be reckoned with. After his family is slaughtered by sinister lords of evil, an innocent boy carries his anger into manhood, vowing bloody vengeance. Armed with supernatural powers and the innate ability to communicate with animals, Dar (Marc Singer, Television's V-The Series) embarks on a journey to bring justice to the marauding forces of evil, lead by malevolent priest Maax (Rip Torn, Men In Black). Aided by experienced hunter Seth (John Amos, Die Hard 2), beautiful slave girl Kiri (Tanya Roberts, Charlie's Angels) and a team of fierce yet loyal animals, the intrepid adventurers take their fight to a dark and desolate landscape where swords cut deep and beasts roar loud.

The Beastmaster tells the story of Dar (Marc Singer), the son of a king who was stolen from his mother's womb by a witch under the command of vicious sorcerer Maax (Rip Torn). A poor villager saves Dar from being sacrificed and raises him as his own son, teaching Dar how to fight and witnessing the boy's ability to telepathically communicate with animals. Their happiness is destroyed when their village is attacked by the evil Jun horde, a race of beast-like warriors controlled by Maax. Dar vows revenge and journeys to his father's former kingdom to destroy Maax. Along the way, he falls in love with gorgeous slave girl Kiri (Tanya Roberts) and teams up with former royal guard Seth (John Amos). Dar also uses his powers to enlist the aid of an eagle, a panther and two adorable ferrets named Kodo and Podo. Together, Dar and his unlikely but brave team square off with Maax in an impressive two-part finale that involves a swordfight on the side of a pyramid and a showdown with the Jun horde near a flaming moat. The resulting film was full of action and eccentric surprises, but failed to make an impression at a box office already glutted with fantasy films. However, The Beastmaster eventually became a serious cult favorite thanks to home video and extensive exposure on cable (it is the second most aired movie on TBS after Gone With the Wind). This enduring popularity led to two sequels and a syndicated television series chronicling the further adventures of Dar.

Maax is a twisted cult leader out to steal the thrown of King Zed, but when Zed banishes Maax, he sends one of his three witches to steal Zed's unborn son. Ripping him right out of his mother's womb with magic and placing it a cow's womb, she took him to die. But a brave hunter killed the witch and rescued the young boy. Naming him Dar, they find out at a young age that he possess the power to communicate with animals. But Maax sends his thugs called the horde to wipe out his peaceful village, thanks to a brave dog Dar survived again and makes plans on using his powers to kill Maax to avenge his people and his foster Father.
