Synopsis:
This stunning 3-disc box set is the ultimate Mother's Day drama collection featuring stunning performances of star-studded productions including The House of Mirth, Jane Eyre and Remains of The Day. REMAINS OF THE DAY: Anthony Hopkins stars as Stevens, the perfect English butler--an ideal carried by him to fanatical lengths--as he serves his master, Lord Darlington, beautifully played by James Fox. Darlington, like many other members of the British establishment in the 1930's, is duped by the Nazis into trying to establish a rapport between themselves and the British government. Emma Thompson stars as the estate's housekeeper, a high-spirited, strong-minded young woman who watches the goings-on upstairs with horror. Despite her apprehensions, she and Stevens gradually fall in love, though neither will admit it, and only give vent to their charged feelings via fierce arguments. JANE EYRE: Jane Eyre (Charlotte Gainsbourg) is a poor orphan, brought up by a wealthy Aunt who is determined she should never forget her impoverished background. Surviving the cruelty of an oppressive boarding school, she becomes the governess of Thornfield Hall, owned by the enigmatic and rarely seen Mr Rochester (William Hurt). When Jane finally meets Mr Rochester in the flesh, she is consumed by an overwhelming attraction towards him that soon becomes mutual. But Rochester is hiding a terrible secret that could destroy the life of trust that Jane has been deprived of and so desperately desires. THE HOUSE OF MIRTH: The glittering yet treacherous world of New York high society comes to brilliant life in the heart-breaking story of Lily Bart (Gillian Anderson), a renowned beauty of exquisite charm who seeks a wealthy husband but, in a series of tragic events, winds up disgraced and discarded.
