Season 1
Nina Proudman's (Asher Keddie) career as an obstetrician is full of surprises, her ex-husband is an explosives expert who detonates to demonstrate his undying love for her, her family life is never short of emergencies, and Nina is the person everyone turns to for help in the midst of their crises. Charting her way through the Proudman maelstrom, Nina is totally thrown off course when she meets dreamy new workmate Chris Havel. Newly arrived in Melbourne, Chris Havel (Don Hany) is a pediatrician. From the moment he arrives in the neonatal ward, the spark between Chris and Nina ignites. He is everything she could ever want from a man. Chris is handsome and smart, gentle and strong. The two of them seem made for each other. But Chris has a past that could destroy any hope for Nina. Billie Proudman (Kat Stewart) is Nina's unruly elder sister. An apprentice in their father's real estate business, Billie is bold, brassy and incapable of lying. Once the wild child, Billie is now determined to put her wayward youth behind her and make something great of her life. Season 4
As the season begins, Nina (Asher Keddie) is twelve weeks pregnant to partner and anaesthetist Patrick Reid (Matthew Le Nevez). Having recovered from the initial shock of their surprise pregnancy, Nina embarks on a mission to order all areas of her life before the baby arrives. Will Nina's desire for a perfect pregnancy and home life be disrupted by complications at work and the bedlam created by the ever-expanding Proudman family? Billie (Kat Stewart) and Mick (Eddie Perfect) let go of the dream of starting a family and focus on their work. With their careers running at a fast pace, the couple must navigate the highs and lows of personal success within their relationship, facing jealousy, loss and all the temptations life throws at them. First time parents, Jimmy and Zara, continue to negotiate the unique nature of their relationship, living together under Geraldine's (Linda Cropper) roof. Season 5
Six months after her life-changing shock, Nina (Asher Keddie) and Billie (Kat Stewart) are living together raising Nina and Patrick's (Matthew Le Nevez) daughter. Determined to jump back into life, Nina returns to work at the hospital, but re-entering the world of obstetrics isn't easy when she's confronted by memories of the past. Sensitive to her situation the Proudman family and St Francis staff treat Nina with kid gloves - to the point where she is relieved when they return to their usual habit of teasing her. Once the wild child, Billie is now a dedicated aunt to Nina's baby. She's also undergoing a self-imposed bout of celibacy as she waits for her estranged husband Mick (Eddie Perfect) to return from the UK. Wanting to make up for the mistakes of her past, Billie stays on the straight and narrow, focusing on her new business venture with Ange. But Billie is soon presented with a surprise temptation. Jimmy (Richard Davies) and Zara (Jane Harber) are juggling parenthood and an expanding taco empire. Shaped by the shock event of last year, Jimmy's new attitude to life will see him take on responsibilities that will surprise everyone in the Proudman family, especially Zara.
