Synopsis:
Following The Railway Children, Lionel Jeffries created the equally magical and much-loved classic. A mysterious and kindly old solicitor called Mr. Blunden pays a visit to recently widowed Mrs Allen and her children offering her the position of caretaker at a derelict country mansion. Struggling in their cramped London flat they cannot refuse and soon arrive at their new home. More surprises are in store when the children not only encounter the ghosts of two previous young residents but also find themselves going back in time to help the right a 100-year-old wrong.

A mysterious, very old solicitor Mr. Blunden visits Mrs. Allen and her young children in her squalid, tiny Camden Town flat and makes her an offer she cannot refuse. The family become the housekeepers to a derelict country mansion in the charge of the solicitors. One day the children meet the spirits of two other children who died in the mansion nearly a hundred years previously. The children prepare a magic potion that allows them to travel backwards in time to the era of the ghost children. Will the children be able to help their new friends and what will happen to them if they do??

The title character is a ghost, doomed to roam his mansion until an age-old mystery is solved. A widow Dorothy Alison and her two children are 'hired' by the wraith-like Blunden to aid him in his sleuthing. Also joining in on the investigation are two ghostly kids, who'd been mistreated in life.
