Synopsis:
Period drama adapted from Catherine Cookson's novel, set just before the First World War, following the fortunes of three very different families, all linked by the strong-minded Agnes Conway. On Christmas Eve, 1913, a disenchanted Agnes is once again behind the counter of her family sweetshop, when she encounters a handsome man who comes in with his sister. So begins her involvement with the wealthy Farrier family. At the same time, her younger sister Jessie becomes entangled with a notorious dockside family.
