This 10 DVD Collection brings together some of her most iconic performances. OUT OF AFRICA: The true life story of Karen Blixen (Meryl Streep), an amazingly strong-willed woman who moves from Denmark to run a coffee plantation with her philandering husband (Klaus Maria Brandauer) in Kenya, around 1914.To her astonishment, she soon discovers herself falling in love with the land, its people and a mysterious British adventurer and idealist (Robert Redford). THE RIVER WILD: A young family, on a white-water rafting adventure in Montana, are taken hostage by a pair of dangerous fugitives. The rafting holiday--a birthday gift for the New England couple's ten-year-old-son--turns into a nightmare when the two armed killers take control and try to force the mother, a proficient rafter, to use her skills to help them to escape down the treacherous rapids. ONE TRUE THING: Kate (Meryl Streep), the undervalued matriarch of the Gulden family, is diagnosed with cancer. Daughter and journalist Ellen (Renee Zellweger) returns from New York City to care for her mother at the request of her father (William Hurt). During the time Kate spends with her parents, she discovers secrets that she was never privy to in her childhood. Though Ellen has always idolised her father, she learns that her mother has had a much more difficult life than she knew. POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE: Hollywood actress Suzanne Vale is on a slippery slope as a recovering addict. On exit from rehab, it is recommended she stay with her mother, who has become a somewhat champion drinker herself. Suzanne therefore struggles to maintain her sobriety and her sanity in the company of Doris. FALLING IN LOVE: Frank Raftis (Robert De Niro) and Molly Gilmore (Meryl Streep) are two everyday people who meet, first by chance and later by choice. There's just one thing standing between Frank and Molly's intense, newfound love--both are already married, to other people. HEARTBURN: Rachel Samstat (Meryl Streep), a New York food critic, beds Mark Forman (Jack Nicholson), a Washington, D.C., newspaper columnist. The two fall in love and Rachel relinquishes her job and relocates to be with a man who views himself as unfit for marriage. They try to build a life together-literally--as they struggle with the construction crews renovating their home. When Rachel gets pregnant, Mark is enthusiastic, but then soon begins doubting whether he could be a family man. IRONWEED: In Depression-era Albany, N.Y., erstwhile baseball star Francis Phelan (Jack Nicholson) has become an alcoholic vagabond after guilt, over accidentally killing his infant son, led him to desert his family. Over the course of several days, he ambles from gritty job to dirty bar to makeshift sleeping quarters. By chance, he encounters fellow itinerant drinker and his sometime lover, Helen Archer (Meryl Streep). Together, they wax nostalgic about their haunted pasts. ADAPTATION: Charlie Kaufman (Nicolas Cage) is a confused L.A. screenwriter overwhelmed by feelings of inadequacy, sexual frustration, self-loathing and by the screenwriting ambitions of his freeloading twin brother Donald (Nicolas Cage). While struggling to adapt 'The Orchid Thief', by Susan Orlean (Meryl Streep), Kaufman's life spins from pathetic to bizarre. The lives of Kaufman, Orlean's book, become strangely intertwined as each one's search for passion collides with the others'. THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE: Years after his squad was ambushed during the Gulf War, Major Ben Marco (Denzel Washington) finds himself having terrible nightmares. He begins to doubt that his fellow squad-mate Sergeant Raymond Shaw (Liev Schreiber), now a vice-presidential candidate, is the hero he remembers him being. As Marco's doubts deepen, Shaw's political power grows and, when Marco finds a mysterious implant embedded in his back, the memory of what really happened begins to return. JULIE AND JULIA: Frustrated with a soul-killing job, New Yorker Julie Powell (Amy Adams) embarks on a daring project: she vows to prepare all 524 recipes in Julia Childs' landmark cookbook, 'Mastering the Art of French Cooking'. Intertwined with Julie's story is the true tale of how Julia Child (Meryl Streep) herself conquered French cuisine with passion, fearlessness and plenty of butter.
