Synopsis:
Founder of the Parisian cabaret theatre «?La Rose Rouge?», producer of John Cassavetes' first film «?Shadows?», and of «?A Love Song?» by Jean Genet, one of his closest friends, Nico Papatakis is, above all, an explosive and independent filmmaker: the solitary author of a body work that resists time and critical categories. A cinema of insurrection and intensity. The Nico Papatakis box set has received the Best Special Features DVD Award 2016 XIII edition (Il Cinema Ritrovato / Bologna). All of his movies are now available in limited edition: 6 movies + 4 CDs + 1 book + several hours of exclusive bonus features. The Depths: Two orphaned sisters, Michele and Marie have been working as servants in a family for some time now. As the drama begins, they are tearing apart the house in the absence of the family. They rant and rave or just talk, slowly revealing that they have not been paid in a long time, and they are alternately either afraid or wildly elated... Thanos and Despina: Katina, an impoverished Greek woman, tries to arrange the marriage of her shepherd son, Thanos, to Despina, the daughter of a wealthy landowner. But Despina's father, Vlahopoulos, refuses to give his blessings and wants Despina to marry a wealthier gentleman named Yankos. The wealthy and spoiled Yankos plots to break up the romantic union between Thanos and Despina any way possible while the young lovers plot to run away in a futile attempt to begin a new life for themselves. In Hell: Hamdias, a producer, has just started a movie whose main theme is torture. But filming is soon interrupted first because of a lack of capital but mainly because Hamdias is killed in tragic circumstances. After a while, Gaila, his friend and also the main actress of his film, sets about continuing his work... The Photograph: Ilias Apostolou, a young furrier who has had a hard time under the dictatorship, leaves Castoria in 1971 to emigrate to France, where he hopes to join a distant relative of his, Gerassimos Tzivas, who has been living there since 1950. With him, he takes nothing from his homeland but a photograph of a person that he finds on the pavement. He asks Gerassimos to help him in finding work in Paris. A misunderstanding around the photograph, however, sets off a series of dramatic events. Walking a Tightrope: Marcel Spandice, a famous homosexual writer during the sixties in Paris, is trying to make a young Arab into the greatest tightrope walker in the world. Gloria Mundi (2004): In 2004, Nikos Papatakis re-edited parts of the film, shot a few new scenes, added some ghostly digital effects - adding layer upon layer to an already complex and challenging cinematic text. A one-of-a-kind work.
