Synopsis:

Simon Hantaï (born in Hungary on December 7, 1922, arrived in France in 1948 with his wife Zsuzsa) rubbed shoulders with several artistic movements (surrealist, gestural...), claimed different influences (Cézanne, Matisse, Pollock) until developing in the 1960s, "folding as a method": folded, crumpled, impregnated with color, unfolded, stretched, the canvas feeds on this unique path. In the early 1980s, recognized as the essential artist that he is, Simon Hantaï decides to retire which will last until his death in 2008: he continues to work but refuses to exhibit.
