Synopsis:

'The line of Michelangelo and the colors of Titian' is how, according to one of his biographers, Carlo Ridolfi, the young Tintoretto would have described his artistic program on the wall of his studio. True or false, this statement still conveys today the meaning of a painting that infuses the Venetian tradition of color with the marked trait of the Tuscan style. An intransigent and tireless artist, he never left Venice. Many palaces and churches on the lagoon shine with the light of his paintings, but his works can also be found in the greatest museums in the world. During his existence, between 1518 and 1594, Tintoretto brought to light a series of religious paintings, at the time of the Counter-Reformation, and produced vibrant portraits during the last heyday of Venetian power.
