Synopsis:
***WARNING: The following films do NOT have English: Doucement les basses, Le Professeur, Le Battant, Le Guépard, Flic Story***The Leopard: In the 1860s, a dying aristocracy struggles to maintain itself against a harsh Sicilian landscape. The film traces with a slow and deliberate rhythm the waning of the noble home of Fabrizio Corbero, Prince of Salina (the Leopard) and the corresponding rise to eminence of the enormously wealthy ex-peasant Don Calogero Sedara. The prince himself refuses to take active steps to halt the decline of his personal fortunes or help build a new Sicily, but his nephew Tancredi, Prince of Falconeri, swims with the tide and assures his own position by marrying Don Calogero's beautiful daughter Angelica. The climatic scene is the sumptuous 40-minute ball in which Tancredi introduces Angelica to society. The Samurai: In Paris, Jef Costello is a lonely hit man who works under contract. He is hired to kill the owner of a club and becomes the prime suspect of the murder. However, his perfect alibi drops the accusation against him. His girlfriend Jane, her client and citizen above any suspicion Wiener and Valerie, the pianist of the club and main witness of the crime, provide the necessary evidence of his innocence supporting his alibi. Free, he is betrayed and chased by the gangsters sent by the one who hired him and also by the police, not convinced of his innocence. Jef seeks out who has hired him to revenge. Easy Down There!: A priest gets a little hot under the collar when the wife he thought was dead unexpectedly returns. Indian Summer: In Italy, gambler and poetry professor Daniele Dominici arrives in the seaside town of Rimini and is hired to teach for four months at a high school, replacing another teacher. His relationship with his partner Monica is in crisis and he spends most of the time with his new acquaintances and gamblers Giorgio Mosca, Marcello, and Gerardo Pavani. In the classroom he meets 19-year-old student Vanina Abati, who is Gerardo's girlfriend, and they fall in love. Their relationship leads to a tragic end. No Way Out: A mob hitman wants to retire, but his bosses don't think that's a good idea. Complications and many bloody shootouts ensue. Two Men in Town: On account of the influence and support of Germain, a warm and compassionate social worker, the repeat offender and former safe-cracker, Gino, is granted parole. Yearning to wipe the slate clean and bury the past, Gino, determined to go straight, gets a steady job and finds love, unaware that it is only a matter of time before he's forced to confront destiny. Now, with his old partners-in-crime almost begging him to pick up where they left off, Gino finds himself with the back to the wall as malevolent Inspector Goitreau re-enters his life, harbouring a decade-long grudge. Is there enough room in town for the two sworn enemies? Borsalino and Co.: It's the early 1930s. Working their way up the ladder largely on chutzpah, Roch Sifreddi and François Capella, who became best friends in their unlikely partnership, have risen to the top of the organized crime world in Marseilles. Shortly after reaching the top, Capella is murdered. Sifreddi eventually learns that the murder was orchestrated by international businessman Giovanni Volpone, new to Marseilles from Italy, whose ultimate goal is to take control of the city in all aspects--legal and illegal. While Sifreddi sees Volpone's action as the start of a gangland war, Volpone has other thoughts in sending a longer-lasting message to Sifreddi and others who may want to fill his shoes. Volpone has specific reasons for wanting Marseilles--a war he will want to wage in most of the western world to reach his end goal. Standing by Sifreddi in this war is Lola, a former prostitute friend to both Sifreddi and Capella, who was Capella's girlfriend at the time of his death, and Sifreddi and Capella's loyal and long-serving head henchman, Fernand. In this battle, Sifreddi can no longer rely on the hands-off approach by the police, former Commissioner Fanti, who would only intervene if the tit-for-tat killings got out of hand. Fanti has now been replaced by Commissioner Cazenave, who is a little out of his element in dealing with such matters. Under the circumstances, the police may have their own ideas of what they would like to happen with Sifreddi and Volpone's war, especially as Volpone views the law as only applying to poor people. Flic Story: This movie depicts the authentic story of the hunt for the dangerous criminal, Emile Buisson, who escaped from prison in 1947. For three years, Buisson manages to hide from detective Borniche by repeatedly killing his informants. When he's finally caught with help from the little criminal, Paul, Buisson will have committed more than 100 robberies and killed 30 people. The Gang: In 1945, as World War Two comes to a close, five small time crooks unite to form a gang. After several bold robberies they become notorious as 'the front-wheel drive gang'. The police attempt to stop their crime spree with little success, but how long will their luck last? Death of a Corrupt Man: One early morning deputy Philippe Dubaye wakes up his old friend Xavier Maréchal with disturbing news: he has just killed Serrano, a racketeer with extant political connections. Serrano kept proofs of Dubaye's involvement in corrupt dealings and was poised to use them against the deputy. Xavier readily agrees to cover up for his old pal Philippe, but he soon runs into difficulties. Nobody believes Dubaye's alibi. And everybody -- influential personalities, powerful businessmen, dubious go-betweens and the police -- wants to get hold of the documents that served to blackmail Dubaye; by all possible means. The Medic: The story is set in June 1983. Famous surgeon Jean-Marie Desprée was left by his wife 1 month ago and now he works in a modern movable hospital, where the 3rd world war is taking place. Three Men to Kill: A man helps the victim of an auto accident, not realizing that the man has actually been shot. The men who shot him are now after the man who helped him, in order to eliminate him as a potential witness. Soon they are killing everyone he even comes in contact with in order to get him. For a Cop's Hide: In Paris, the ex-cop Choucas is a private detective that works with a mysterious partner, Tarpon, and the secretary Charlotte. He is presently working in an embezzlement case of an employee of the pharmacist Jude. When the middle-aged Isabelle Pigot hires him to investigate the disappearance of her blind twenty year-old daughter Marthe Pigot that worked at the Drillard Foundation for blinds, the Police Inspector Coccioli seeks Choucas out and asks him to drop the case. But Choucas proceeds with the investigation and schedules an encounter with Isabelle in a square, but she is murdered with a shot on the forehead. Chouca continues to investigate and soon the dirty Chief Inspector Madrier tries to kill Chouca, but he is only wounded and kills the inspector in self-defense. Then two criminals abduct Chouca but he succeeds to escape. He meets his secret partner, the retired Chief of Police Haymann, and Charlotte and they disclose a case of narcotics. Further, Choucas learns that he has been manipulated by Coccioli and other Chiefs of Police. The Fighter: Jacques Darnay (A. Delon) is caught and convicted of stealing diamonds and the murder of a jeweler. Although not guilty, the prisoner has served eight years. The jewels are not found so Jacques, after his release from prison, follows Inspector Rouxel (P. Mondy), and other criminals who are interested in where the prey.
