Synopsis:
The independent and essential voice of the 'Black Power' years, the fathers of rap, slam, spoken word… (s)tell the moving and incredible meeting of the founding members. A political, musical and trans-generational film, with impeccable production, in which the Last Poets recognize themselves! In 1968, Harlem poets created THE LAST POETS. With words like machine gun bursts, the cult group denounces the oppression of African-Americans and paints a devastating and humorous portrait of life in the ghetto against a backdrop of percussion, jazz or funk. After 40 years of separation, the members of the legendary group founder of modern hip hop, rap and slam, meet again in Paris for a unique concert during the Banlieues Bleues 2008 festival. In the closed doors of a rehearsal room, they evoke the birth of the collective, the years of lead and high-risk artistic delirium. The group accompanying the poets for this reunion concert is also made up of true legends of 'great black music': Ronald Shannon Jackson, Jamaladeen Tacuma, Robert Irving III and Kenyatte Abdur-Rhaman. The Last Poets/made in Amerikkka explodes the boundaries between concert recording, musical documentary and art film. An event film in which The Last Poets recognize themselves.
