Synopsis:
The Battle of the Century: Fight manager (Hardy) takes out an insurance policy on his puny pugilist (Laurel) and then proceeds to try to arrange for an accident so that he can collect. When a pie delivery man (Hall) slips on a banana peel, meant for the fighter, a classic pie throwing scene results. The Second 100 Years: In an escape attempt, two convicts (Laurel and Hardy) tunnel instead into the warden's office. They then disguise themselves as painters and walk out the front gate. Needing new clothes, they steal suits from visiting dignitaries, take their places in a limousine, and are delivered back to the same prison for a tour. With Love and Hisses: Dimwitted Cuthbert Hope is enlisted in the army, and gets himself and his sergeant in constant trouble. Love 'Em and Weep: Old flame (Busch) shows up to blackmail married businessman (Finlayson). He enlists a friend (Laurel) to keep her away from his home and wife. Confusion prevails when she crashes a house party. Putting Pants on Philip: Pompous J. Piedmont Mumblethunder, greets his nephew from Scotland, who arrives in kilts. He is immediately taken to a tailor for a pair of proper pants. Slipping Wives: Neglected by her husband, our heroine decides to make him jealous by getting the handyman to play a literary genius at a party and flirt with her. Sugar Daddies: Rich oil tycoon (Finlayson) awakens one morning, after a night of carousing, to be told that he was married the night before. His lawyer (Laurel) is called in to straighten things out when a blackmail attempt is made. Wild chases through a dance hall and amusement park ensue. Do Detectives Think?: An escaped convict is out to kill the judge who sentenced him. Two inept detectives are hired to guard the judge. Sailors, Beware!: Chester Chaste, an honest cab driver, delivers Madame Ritz and her apparent child to a steamship, but ends up accidentally stowing away along with his cab. Madame Ritz is planning to commit jewel robberies aboard the ship, meanwhile, Chester has been given a choice between working as a steward or being thrown overboard, so he goes to work under the cynical eye of Purser Cryder. Chester inadvertently makes the purser's life miserable, but in the meantime discovers the secret of Madame Ritz's 'baby.' Flying Elephants: It's the Stone Age, and the king has declared that all eligible males must marry within 24 hours. The wizard Saxophonus has a terrible toothache and an unmarried daughter, Blushing Rose. Meanwhile, an enormous stranger comes into the area looking for a wife, but is rebuffed at his first few attempts. Little Twinkle Star is also looking for romance, and he takes an interest in Blushing Rose. Call of the Cuckoo: Max wants to sell his home, because of the crazy neighbours. Somebody else wants to get rid of his house, too, so they swap. But that house turns out to be a chaos of installation. The lights are not connected with the right switches, gas and water are mixed up, and the floor has a list, too. During the house-warming party, it comes to a battle between two relatives, who have little respect for others property, but that's not the worst blow for Max that evening... From Soup to Nuts: Intent on dazzling the high-society, the nouveau-riche, Mrs Culpepper, decides to throw a smart dinner party--and of all people--Stan and Ollie are her not-so-competent waiters. The boys claim to have experience in waiting; however, are they good enough to serve the madame's hand-picked guests? Are they even capable of serving a simple salad? And what about the pièce de résistance--a magnificently enormous fluffy cake? Why Girls Love Sailors: Stan is young sailor whose girl gets kidnapped by rough sea captain. Stan dresses in drag and seduces the captain and the captain's wife catches him. Stan and his girl beat a hasty retreat as the captain's wife fires off a parting shot.
