This trilogy provides a sampler of three short horror films from high-profile Asian directors. The first and spookiest offering, 'Dumplings,' is a shortened version of a feature by the same name from the Hong Kong director Fruit Chan. In the second segment, Park Chanwook's 'Cut,' a successful movie director named Ryu (Lee Byung-Hun) is terrorized by a psychotic former extra from one of his films (Lim Won-Hee). In the final entry, Takashi Miike's 'Box,' a reclusive novelist (Kyoko Hasegawa) is haunted by the ghost of her twin sister, who died as a child in a bizarre circus accident that may or may not have been the novelist's fault. Though 'Three ... Extremes' may seem tame to jaded fans of what has been termed New Asian Horror, it serves as a fine introduction to the genre for those who are curious but squeamish.
