When John Harlow is hired as a new driver for Pro-Sport Car racing team Corona, he is determined to put his bitter past as a hard-drinking ex-Champion, haunted by the memory of a tragic motor accident, firmly behind him. However, when his trainer is killed in suspicious circumstances and rumours of financial impropriety at Corona start to circulate, Harlow sees his new hopes for success start to slip away. Determined to hold the team together he stumbles upon a vicious Eastern European ring of diamond smugglers, using the team as a cover for their dirty trade. Harlow'sweakening resolve is unexpectedly strengthened when he is joined by a mysterious and beautiful female ex-KGB operative, out to bring to justice the mastermind behind this mafia conspiracy. Together they embark on a desperate race to reveal the scam to the authorities.
