Synopsis:
No french review yet:
The Italians (1964)
More than half a million Italians live and work in Switzerland, comprising a tenth of the entire population. They are needed in a country whose economy is geared to rely on foreign labour, but at the same time their presence is resented by the Swiss who regard them as intruders. It is an abnormal situation in which the Italians come to be regarded not as people so much as 'a problem'. This documentary gets behind the bitter prejudices and misconceptions that all Swiss hold to some degree about the Italians, and tries to understand just what life means to the Italian worker in Switzerland.
September Wind (2002)
Forty years after 'Siamo ialiani', the author devotes himself to several of the 'foreign workers' who had flocked to Switzerland from southern Italy. The young couple of once-upon-a-time have retired and are now back in their homeland in Apulia enjoying the fruits of their working days abroad - and also yearning for a visit from their children who live in Switzerland. It is not only the second generation Italians in Switzerland who feel as if they are 'half-Swiss, half-Italian': Some of the former migrants, though they have returned to Apulia, find themselves most often 'in Switzerland' in their thoughts.
