Synopsis:
No french review yet:
The Private Life of Don Juan: What do women want? Don Juan is aging. He's arrived secretly in Seville after a 20-year absence. His wife Dolores, with whom he hasn't lived in five years, still loves him. He refuses to see her; he fears the life of a husband. She has bought his debts and will remand him to jail for two years if he won't come to her. Meanwhile, an impostor is climbing the balconies of Seville claiming to be Don Juan. When a jealous husband kills him, the real Don Juan sees a way to avoid jail and get some peace. He hides as Captain Mariano in a small town. After six months, he's ready to return to society. Can he measure up to the legend? Will women find him attractive? What about Dona Dolores? Men Are Not Gods: Ann Williams (Miriam Hopkins), secretary to eccentric drama critic T.H. Skeates (A.E. Matthews), is persuaded to alter a ruinous review of Shakespearean actor Edmond Davey (Sebastian Shaw) by Davey's wife Barbara (Gertrude Lawrence). Davey's 'Othello' becomes a hit and Ann, even though fired by Skeates, becomes a fan of Davey and starts to fall for him, much to the jealousy of her boyfriend Tommy (Sir Rex Harrison). At the prospect of involvement in an adulterous triangle, Ann recoils. But despite her resolution, the characters' love lives become ever more tangled and a real-life tragedy of Othello looms. The Man Who Could Work Miracles: While vigorously asserting the impossibility of miracles, George McWhirter Fotheringay suddenly discovers that he can perform them. After being thrown out of a bar for what is thought to be a trick, he tests his powers and eventually sends a policeman to Hades by accident. Worried, he sends the police officer to San Francisco and seeks advice from the local clergyman, Mr. Maydig who, after having Fotheringay's powers demonstrated to him, quickly plans for world reform by means of miracle. Meanwhile, his boss wants to exploit Fotheringay's powers to expand his business. When Fotheringay implements some of Maydig's principles on a small scale, changing several of the local gentry's 'immoral' possessions, they decide Something Must Be Done about him. Over the Moon: Young Jane Benson (Merle Oberon) just about manages to make ends meet running the large family house in Yorkshire. In love with local doctor Freddie Jarvis (Sir Rex Harrison), she suggests they marry, but almost at once finds she has inherited eighteen million pounds. He makes it clear he wants nothing to do with the money and what it can buy, and Jane sets off alone on a spree pursued by two ardent suitors. Freddie finds he has gained notoriety for turning down such a catch and his plans for earnest research are soon compromised.
