Anne-Grethe Bjarup Riis's previous feature film, This Life, about the Hvidsten group who resisted German occupation during WWII, became a smash hit back in Denmark, selling 765,000 tickets in 2012. Here she tackles another very Danish story, that of the nation's most succeesful harness racing horse: Tarok. Tarok was raised and raced by the Laursen family, and the film is actually more about the charismatic members of this persevering Jutland clan than about their work training and competing with the horse in question. As the captivating, classic tale of success unfolds, a portrait is painted in passing of a defining era for agricultural Denmark; when farms where industrialised, family business were forced out of business and a whole lifestyle disappeared.
