This documentary focuses on the modern-day village of Innisfree, the location used by legendary director John Ford for his Irish romance The Quiet Man starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara.
Tren de sombras (1997)
Director José Luís Guerin uses several types of film media and distinctive lighting techniques to explore the mystery of Paris lawyer and amateur filmmaker Gerard Fleury who on November 8, 1930 disappeared on a lake near the village of Le Thuit in Normandy while looking for proper lighting conditions around the lake shore. A challenging and arty drama, much of the story centers around the events leading up to the disappearance and is based on some recently discovered, but poorly preserved home movie footage that was shot just before Fleury vanished (though it looks convincing, the footage is totally bogus).
Some Photos In the City of Sylvia (2007)
Guerín's own black-and-white silent film, Unas fotos ... en la ciudad de Sylvia, offers us that 'first contact' as it sets up a capricious voyage to several European cities to try to discover a woman the filmmaker had met 22 years earlier. The director undertakes a kind of literary journey, following in the footsteps of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Dante Alighieri, Francesco Petrarch and the cities of their lives, as he follows images of a Beloved who might not exist or, in any event, cannot be found.
