Synopsis:
On September 8, 1943 signed the armistice between Italy and the Allied nations. On board of the Italian ships there is turmoil, many would like to continue fighting even if the desire to put an end to the war is strong. The crew commander Admiral Bergamini and his officers were outraged because they have been ordered to bring the whole fleet into an ally port. On September 9, after twelve hours in the Gulf of Bonifacio, the ship is attacked by German planes, who were Italy's allies just the day before. The battleship Roma is hit and explodes, sinking with 1393 men on board. The documentary recounts the events of those hours trying to shed light on the mysteries surrounding the tragedy.

On 8th September 1943 Admiral Bergamini, commanding the Italian fleet, was ordered to surrender his ships to the allies. Both he and his officers were furious and reluctant to obey an order that they felt was dishonorable. So Bergamini ordered the fleet out to sea, destination unknown, closely tracked by both the German and the Allies. Only a few hours later the Luftwaffe launched an attack using ultra-modern, radio-controlled bombs. The Roma, pride and joy of the Italian fleet, took a fatal hit. It exploded and sank with her crew of 1400 sailors and their admiral.
