Synopsis:

The Night Before the Exams (2006)
Luca is convinced he will pass his final exam and so, on the last day of school, he takes his courage into his hands and, without mincing his words, confesses to his literature teacher that he hates him and doesn't have any respect for him. In reply, professor Martinelli reveals that he will be the school's internal representative on the exam board. This is the start of a few frenetic days before the exams are held, moments of chaos spent desperately cramming, while also trying to track down a girl who he met at a party and has never seen again. Things start to get complicated when the press also get involved, announcing that the school's exit exams are being cancelled. There's cheering in the streets, but unfortunately it is really only a joke, and so while Luca has to roll up hsi sleeves and avoid professor Martinelli failing him, his friends start to come to terms with the dreaded exams, which also mark the start of their adulthood and real responsibilities.

The Night Before the Exams Today (2007)
Reunites the same cast, reprising their characters from the original film, but transplants them from the 1980s to the Italy of 2006. This leap allows the filmmaker to compare and contrast youth culture across generations, from the era of the call box to the era of cell phones, text messages and online chatting.

The film is set in an Italian high school in the late 80s. It is the summer of 1989 and Luca (Nicolas Vaporidis) and his mates are about to leave high school, as long as they pass their exams! Fully expecting never having to put up with his horrid literature teacher, Antonio Martinelli, again, Luca decides to tell him exactly what he thinks of him. But Professor Martinelli informs Luca that, owing to a colleague's illness, he will now be in charge of the exams. Oh dear... Luca's social life isn't much better, although his friends are what matters to him. One night, at a party, Luca meets the girl of his dreams, Claudia (Cristiana Capotondi), but before he can get her phone number, she is whisked away by her thuggish boyfriend Cesare (Marco Aceti). But Luca and Claudia will meet again, in a totally unpredictable way.

A sequel, Notte prima degli esami - Oggi was released in 2007. The sequel features many of the same actors playing the same characters they played in the original, but it is set in 2006, during Italy's World Cup winning summer.

It's a colourful summer in the '80s, Luca (Nicolas Vaporidis) and his friends prepare for the dreaded maturità (high school graduation) exams, with all the troubles, emotions, mishaps and delights that typically afflict teenagers at this stressful time. At a party, Luca falls in love with an extroverted yet mysterious girl, Claudia (Cristiana Capotondi). He only knows her name; because he knows nothing else about her, he has no idea how to find her again. Meanwhile, Luca is desperately trying to get back in favour with his literature teacher (Giorgio Faletti), who will be the teacher sitting in on his oral exams.
