Synopsis:
Antipodean cycling fans are well versed in the lore of 'The Queen of the Classics,' The Paris Roubaix cycling race. Every April, the tougest cyclists on the international circuit saddle up to attack the crumbling cobble stones that still lie on the pathways north of Paris, leading to Belgium. We have been blessed with one superb documentary on this race, the 1974 film, "A Sunday In Hell". Now it's time for an update. "Road to Roubaix", set in 2007, tells the stories of the riders, mechanics, fans and the brutal unpredictable landscape that is the stage for the Paris Roubaix. Combining candid interviews with both today's stars and cycling legends, rare behind the scenes footage, stunning panoramic views of the race and the region, and a collection of archival and contemporary still images, the film makers bring you a view of the Paris Roubaix that most people never see. It's an unforgettable year for Australian fans, as Stuart O'Grady claimed victory for the CSC team. No other Australian had won it before.

Road To Roubaix is a documentary on the most prestigious one-day cycling race in the world, Paris-Roubaix. First held in 1896 and now in its 105th edition, the race is a grueling contest over 160 miles of narrow, cobbled farm roads in the Picardie and Norde-Pas-de-Calais regions of France with a finish in the historic Roubaix velodrome. Road to Roubaix is a visual narrative of an old-school, bare-knuckle clash of the finest athletes in the world with each other and one of the world's most unforgiving sporting environments. The filmmakers tell the story of the riders, the fans, the mechanics, and the unpredictable landscape that is the setting for the Paris-Roubaix.

Directors David Deal and Dave Cooper, bring you a film that celebrates one of the most historically relevant races in the world. Rare interviews with current superstars, legends of the sport, mechanics, and fans lead the audience through the brutal, unpredictable landscape that elevates Paris-Roubaix to its epic status. Director of photography Patrick Reis and his team masterfully capture the beauty of the region through stunning panoramic views and footage of the race, riders, and the infamous cobblestones which serve as the star of the film. Edited by Kathryn Hempel, the film deftly weaves rare behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, and a collection photographs-both contemporary and archival-that make Road To Roubaix an organic visual narrative that engages audiences from beginning to end. This is a rare look at Paris-Roubaix usually reserved for the sport's insiders. It is truly unique within the genre of cycling films, and will leave you anxiously awaiting Masterlink Films' next project.
