Synopsis:
The Little Street Singer: A poor mother and daughter lose their home because they can't pay back what they owe to a usurer. The mother is forced to sew day and night while the daughter goes begging with a barrel organ and her little monkey, Jacky. But Jacky is clever and the usurer is no match for such an opponent. The Little Parade: In La Petite Parade, Starewitch again combines live footage of Nina's performance, presented through rear projection, with puppets. Here Nina's action is framed as an actual stage performance that her character, the ballerina, otherwise represented by a puppet in the film, performs for the nightly audience of toys. We see most of Nina's performance through conventional crosscutting between the audience and Nina, each featured in their own separate shots. However, there are moments in the performance scene when the audience and Nina are combined in one shot. For instance, at the beginning of the scene, we see a well lit miniature set with the toy characters interacting before a stage. Then the lights start to dim, and the curtain on the background stage at frame center opens. Behind the curtain there appears Nina, who starts dancing. The Magical Clock, or The Little Girl Who Wanted to Be a Princess: It's the story of Yolande, a little girl (about 12) who wanted to become a princess. Bombastus, her old father, has created a marvelous and big clock crowded with little characters (animated puppets). On each hour ring, one of the twelve knights of the clock comes into motion. They're all in love with the princess but a strong black knight doesn't agree... It's not a happy end. So Yolande will dive deep into her dreams, maybe to change the story. It's the second part of the movie. Sylph, master of this imaginary earth and Ondin, master of the aquatic world are the main characters. Yolande and then the man of her dreams join this strange world...
