Synopsis:
Back-Room Boy: A lowly BBC employee pulls a prank at the studio and finds himself transferred to an isolated island where he is to set up a weather station at a lighthouse. As if in a fantasy, a ship carrying a bevy of beautiful models is shipwrecked off the coast and the models wind up on the island. However, when the models begin disappearing, the 'back-room boy' investigates and finds a sinister scheme involving spies and Nazi battleships. Band Waggon: Evicted from the roof of Broadcasting House, Arthur Askey and Stinker Richard Murdoch move into Droon Castle in Sussex. Not realizing that the television equipment they discover is in use by German Secret Agents they do the obvious thing, put on a show. Bees in Paradise: A female run society on Paradise Island is in need of new men to sustain their population. Only two babies have been born recently, and both were boys. On cue, a British bomber loses power and crashes onto the island. All four men parachute safely. They feel delusional when comely women show up around them. The Paradise societal structure is based on a beehive with a queen at the top. Men are treated like drones. They are sought for marriage. After a two-month honeymoon, during which they are expected to sire a child, they are executed. The local men are reluctant to marry for fear of losing their lives. The four crewmen quickly learn the rules of engagement and marriage. Accepting a ride in a woman's sedan chair announces an engagement. Sharing a cup of wine constitutes a wedding ceremony. The crew's tiny mechanic, Arthur Tucker, is fussed over by the ladies who think he is cute. After officiating a rugby match in which he is literally run into the ground, he is taken to the apartment of the woman whose sedan chair he has already ridden in. Being somewhat dazed from his pounding, he accepts an offered cup of wine. In front of a witness, his hostess quickly takes a sip, too. He is bound in marriage. He refuses to do his husbandly duties for he has fallen for another of the women. He is locked up after an escape bid and tried for dereliction of duties. His wife begs for mercy but loses her appeal. Two crewmen in drag help him to a canoe. Offshore help may be available, but his wife catches him as he tries to paddle away. King Arthur Was a Gentleman: Arthur King joins the army, and soon starts fantasising about King Arthur and his knights. Miss London Ltd.: Terry Arden (Evelyn Dall) travels to England to take over her half of her late father's dating service run by Arthur Bowman (Arthur Askey). An enjoyable musical comedy. I Thank You: Struggling entertainers who are trying to put on a show pose as servants to wealthy woman in hopes of raising the money.
