This is the story of the legendary embrace of black American artists with France in the Roaring Twenties. A story between two shores, between two wars, between two cultures, between two loves. The Paris of the 1920s made Josephine Baker the first international black star. If on her own she personifies the joie de vivre, insolence and creativity of the Roaring Twenties, at the same time, in the shadow of the icon, a whole generation of black American artists crossed the Atlantic and settled down in France. This documentary was produced on the occasion of the presentation of the exhibition "The Color Line" at the Musée du Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac.
