Synopsis:
No German review yet:
24 Hours in the Life of a Clown: A day in the life of Beby the clown. Filmed between shows at Circus Medrano, at home and in the streets of Paris, with his faithful partner and friend the clown Maïss. Fool's Mate: When an unfaithful wife receives a fur coat from her lover as a gift, they must figure out a way to keep the husband from discovering the coat's true origins. All the Memory in the World: This documentary explores the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, its priceless treasures, and how humanity remembers itself. All the Boys Are Called Patrick: In picturesque Paris, the young students, Charlotte and Véronique, share a small apartment, interested only in their studies. However, little do they know that at Le Jardin du Luxembourg, Patrick, a charming pickup artist, will manage to seduce them both, of course, behind each other's backs. Under those circumstances, how is this blind double date going to end up? Oh seasons, Oh Castles: The director takes us to a trip to the castles of the Loire; from the fortresses bold of the Middle-Ages-Chinon (which was destroyed by Richelieu) Langeais, Angers-to the exquisite Châteaux Renaissance (Chenonceaux: the Dames' castle, Azay-Le Rideau and its reflection in the river Indre, Cheverny and its gardens 'A la Française'), not forgetting the castles which came between such as Amboise and Blois. Varda ends her trip to the Loire in a less famous mysterious castle. Charlotte and Her Boyfriend: After dating for three months, Charlotte breaks up with her boyfriend Jules, a writer, for another man, a filmmaker who Jules believes is only a means to further her acting career. One week later, Charlotte returns to Jules' apartment. Jules embarks on a diatribe about their relationship, past and present. Jules admits that he still loves her, and that her return proves that she still loves him, but it is questionable on his part how easily he will take her back. If Jules does end up letting Charlotte get a word in edgewise, he may discover the answers to their relationship questions from Charlotte's perspective. The Song of Styrene: Poetic and aesthetic visit of a large polystyrene factory. A Story of Water: A young woman is going to Paris by bus, but when she steps out of her house she discovers that her garden and the whole village is flooded with water. With a boat and a bike she succeeds to reach a dry spot in the village. There a young man in a car offers her a lift. They drive around in circles, trying to find a way out of the area, but all ways are blocked by the water. Concurrently with the ever rising water the emotions within the two young people also start rising. At last they find their way out of the flooded area. When they reach Paris and the young woman looks up at the Eiffel Tower, she knows that she is going to spend the night with this man. The Overworked: A beautiful young lady who is not too smart wins a typing contest and takes the train to Paris to work, where she will encounter two men. Love Exists: A social commentary on post-war France's urban developments. Janine: Two men are disappointed by women and united by a whore. In Memory Of Rock: Rock'n roll and how it started changing everything. The Little Café: Reichenbach was an innovative filmmaker who filmed everything around him using primarily his intuition. Instead of filming portraits of people, he made a portrait of a little café, where people are considered props and a spontaneously filmed telephone conversation between the café owner and a customer becomes the plot. Song Of Deeds: Choreography of familiar gestures that the author was able to spice up with a peculiar and original perspective. The Botanical Avatar of Mademoiselle Flora: A young woman lives sadly in a small garrison town with a soldier. Little by little, won over by boredom, sadness, total inaction, she develops a relationship with plants and starts talking to plants. The Goumbé Of The Young Revelers: This short documents the preparation of a musical event, a ritual associated in this African community with a marriage ceremony. The 15-Year-Old Widows: A documentary short subject on the splendors and miseries of the mid 1960s French youth generation. The Sixth Face Of The Pentagon: On October 21, 1967, over 100,000 protestors gathered in Washington, D.C., for the Mobilization to End the War in Vietnam. It was the largest protest gathering yet, and it brought together a wide cross-section of liberals, radicals, hippies, and Yippies. Che Guevara had been killed in Bolivia only two weeks previously, and, for many, it was the transition from simply marching against the war, to taking direct action to try to stop the 'American war machine.' Norman Mailer wrote about the events in Armies of the Night. French filmmaker Chris Marker, leading a team of filmmakers, was also there, and made THE SIXTH SIDE OF THE PENTAGON. Directing Actors by Jean Renoir: A example of Jean Renoir's talents as a director as he works Gisèle Braunberger into the right frame of mind.
