Synopsis:
No German review yet:
Sayonara: The romance of a U.S. Air Force Officer and a Japanese dancer, and their
ultimate marriage, following the tragic deaths of their close friends, an
American serviceman and his native wife, victims of deep racial prejudice. The Fugitive Kind: Valentine Xavier is a traveling musician who has decided to change his lifestyle and do away with haunts and nightclubs. By the will of fate, he ends up in a provincial town, where he gets a job as a salesman in Jabe Torrance's store. Between him and Lady Torrance, the wife of the owner of the store, there is sympathy. But the young and eccentric Carol Cutrere also claims the guy's heart. Under the circumstances, he will have to make a difficult choice. One-Eyed Jacks: After successfully robbing a bank in Sonora, Mexico, Dad Longworth abandons his surviving partner, Rio, who is caught and imprisoned by the Mexican Federales. Five years later, Rio manages to escape and wants his revenge. He soon learns that Dad Longworth is now the Sheriff of Monterey, California, where there also happens to be a bank just waiting to be robbed. Longworth has done well for himself: He's just been re-elected Sheriff, and is now married and has a lovely stepdaughter, Louisa. As Louisa and Rio fall in love, killing Longworth becomes more of a problem, but the Sheriff makes it easier by arresting Rio for robbing the bank--which he didn't. The Ugly American: An intelligent, articulate scholar, Harrison MacWhite, survives a hostile Senate confirmation hearing at the hands of conservatives to become ambassador to Sarkan, a southeast Asian country where civil war threatens a tense peace. Despite his knowledge, once he's there, MacWhite sees only a dichotomy between the U.S. and Communism. He can't accept that anti-American sentiment might be a longing for self-determination and nationalism. So, he breaks from his friend Deong, a local opposition leader, ignores a foreman's advice about slowing the building of a road, and tries to muscle ahead. What price must the country and his friends pay for him to get some sense? Bedtime Story: Benson is a Casanova who despises women and invents all sorts of tricks to bed them and leave them. His favorite one is going through Germany posing as an American GI of Teutonic extraction. Whenever he spots a girl he likes, he takes a Polaroid picture of her house, then knocks on the door waving the photo and pretending to be on a pilgrimage to this very cottage his grandmother so vividly described. It is an infallible system for a hit-and-run seduction. Benson seems content with his game until he meets Jameson, a real operator who has learned to combine sex with money. Jameson poses as an exiled prince and not only gets women to share his bed but also to bestow their jewels on him for the sake of the counter-revolution. Benson decides to corner Jameson's market on sex plus finance. A contest develops, and whoever wins will dominate a small Riviera resort as 'King of the Mountain,' the film's original title. Remade in 1988 as 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.' A Countess from Hong Kong: In Hong Kong, wealthy Ogden Mears is traveling in a transatlantic, close to being assigned Saudi Arabian ambassador, and divorcing his wife Martha. He and his friend Harvey are invited by their old friend Clark to go to a nightclub with three aristocratic Russians on their last night. Ogden drinks too much and spends the night with Countess Natascha. The next morning, while sailing back home, Ogden finds Natascha hidden in his cabin wearing a ball gown and with no documents. The stowaway explains that she wants to go to the United States. Ogden is worried about his career, but Harvey convinces him to help Natascha. Ogden falls in love with Natascha, and he and Harvey plot a fake marriage between Natascha and his valet Hudson. Things get complicated when Immigration requests Natascha's documents and Martha arrives on board.
