Born in Newark in 1948, Abigail Child is an American filmmaker, poet, and writer. She works in the fields of documentary and experimental cinema, with a body of work comprising over 40 films, videos, and installations. A virtuoso of film editing-utilizing found footage as much as her own imagery-she orchestrates an interplay between sound and image to construct discontinuous narrative forms. Abigail Child also explores themes of history and memory, re-engaging with the past in original, critical film essays. She frequently raises questions concerning the environment, political activism, female identity, the body, and gender. She creates audiovisual installations and confronts the challenges of the future.
