Synopsis:
Comedian, actor, and author Barry Humphries wrote and co-stars in this sequel to the surprise international hit The Adventures of Barry McKenzie, based on the comic-strip character created by Humphries. Well-meaning but dunderheaded über-Aussie Barry McKenzie (Barry Crocker) is escorting his aunt, self-proclaimed 'housewife superstar' Edna Everage (Barry Humphries), on a trip to France, where they've learned Barry's twin brother, Ken McKenzie, a progressive priest, will be speaking as part of a seminar on 'Christ and the Orgasm.' En route, a pair of Transylvanian agents, working under the command of the evil Communist vampire Count Plasma (Donald Pleasance), become convinced that Edna is actually Queen Elizabeth II, and not long after arriving in Paris, they kidnap Edna and spirit her away to the count's castle. When Barry learns that his aunt has fallen victim to foul play, he and his mates, including transplanted Australian Colin the Frog (Dick Bentley), set out to find her -- when they're not busy chasing 'Shelias,' swilling Foster's Lager, or projectile vomiting. In addition to playing Edna Everage, Humphries takes on two other roles in Barry McKenzie Holds His Own, and managed to persuade former Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitlam and his wife to make a cameo appearance in the film.

Self-confessed megastar Aunt Edna Everage (Barry Humphries) is returning from London to Sydney with her hapless loud-mouthed, sex crazed nephew, Barry McKenzie (Barry Crocker), when she is mistaken for the Queen of England by a couple of Eastern European ratbags. Edna is kidnapped and taken to Transylvania in a bid to boost their struggling tourist industry. But once the sinister Erich Count Plasma (Donald Pleasance) discovers that Edna is an ordinary Australian housewife - and that 'Norm of Melbourne' is not a codename for Prince Phillip - he straps her into his patent pending 'Autovamp' machine and starts building up his collection of Chateau Everage. Excitement brews and Fosters flows as Bazza sets out to rescue the Dame-to-be in distress aided by his long-lost identical twin brother, Kev the Rev (also Barry Crocker) and a motley group of ex-patriot Australians (including perpetually inebriated Clive James, Dick Bentley and Ed Devereaux) disguised as Bondi University students. Bazza will need to use all his native Australian cunning to outwit, outfight and outyodel the evil Count. Strewth! Can Bazza keep it up right to the climax? Filmed at huge expense in London, Paris, Sydney and Transylvania and packed full-as-a-boot with Aussie slang, ribald humour, good lookin' hosties, great musical numbers and projectile chunder, 'BARRY McKENZIE HOLDS HIS OWN ' has long been hidden away, preserved in a vault of amber fluid. Now, finally, it is available to take home. So, don't come the raw prawn! Wring the rattlesnake, grab your Sheilah, crack a tube and slap the film in your DVD machine faster than a rat up a rhododendron!
