Synopsis:

SPELLBINDER is a fantasy adventure series about a suburban teenager, Paul Reynolds, who finds himself accidentally marooned in a world parallel to his own. It is a world where the Industrial Revolution never happened, where a powerful group called Spellbinders are in charge and where the people are controlled by manipulation of their fear and ignorance. Immediately recognised as an outsider, Paul, unable to return home, finds himself in terrible danger - when the Spellbinders discover his superior scientific and technological knowledge. He escapes with the help of a local girl, Rhiannon, and by combining her local knowledge and skills with his abilities from life in the 1990s, the two of them outwit and outmanoeuvre the Spellbinders and ultimately Paul finds his way home. In order to save Rhiannon, Paul has to drag her into his world and now she is the outsider, suddenly confronted with the chaotic complexities of 1990s city life. Their troubles are compounded when one of the Spellbinders discovers how to break through to Paul's world and she threatens to wreak havoc unless Paul helps her gain access to technology and power. This confrontation and its successful resolution bring Spellbinder to its thrilling conclusion.

On a school trip, practical jokers Paul and Alex plan a prank to scare the girls, but it goes disastrously wrong when Paul vanishes into thin air. While his friends search in vain, Paul finds himself lost and alone in a strange place.

As Paul starts to learn more about his new surroundings, he begins to suspect that he has traveled back in time, until he sees Ashka demonstrating the Spellbinder's power.

Finding the Way Home

S1, Ep3 Apr. 24, 1997

Paul returns to the Summoning Tower where he first entered Riana's world, in the hope of getting home. The portal opens again and he sees his friends and family, but it closes before he is able to get through.

It Isn't Magic, It's Science

Paul discovers that the Spellbinders' power is based in science and believes they may be able to help him get home, but first he must convince Gryvon that he really has come from another world.

Paul manages to convince Ashka that he really is from another world and that he has knowledge that could be useful to the Spellbinders. Riana makes her way to the castle where Paul is imprisoned, but finds Gryvon following the same path.

Paul shows Correon the videos and starts to explain about the technology of his world. When Ashka realizes that she is missing out, she and Gryvon plot to hide Paul so that they alone can benefit from his knowledge.

The Gunpowder Plot

Alex and Katrina find a way to get back to the cave, by buying places on a school literature camp. Paul agrees to make gunpowder for Gryvon but hides the real recipe from him. Riana turns to Correon for help in rescuing Paul.

Secrets of the Spellbinders

S1, Ep8 May 29, 1997

In an abandoned Spellbinder castle, Paul and Correon learn that the darkness was caused by over-ambitious Spellbinders. Realising that Paul's knowledge is too dangerous, Correon agrees to help Paul return to his own world.

The Labyrinth

S1, Ep9 Jun. 5, 1997

Captured by the Marauders, Paul and Correon discover that they are actually just ordinary villagers who were banished by the Spellbinders. The pair attempt to escape, but finding their way out of the camp isn't so easy.

Desperate Measures

S1, Ep10 Jun. 12, 1997

Zander agrees to help Riana and Paul, but is unable to persuade the other Marauders not to banish Correon. Alex and Katrina set up the radios and are able to warn Paul that Ashka is set to attack the Marauder camp.

The Centre of Power

S1, Ep11 Jun. 19, 1997

Ashka challenges Correon to a duel and sabotages his power suit to ensure that he loses and will be banished. Paul must learn to operate one of their flying ships in order to escape the castle.

Spellbinder Jack

S1, Ep12 Jun. 26, 1997

Alex and Katrina finally make contact with Paul. When the flying ship crash lands, Paul impersonates a Spellbinder to get help, but Ashka is still close on his trail, so he and Riana find themselves on the run once more.

The Final Challenge

S1, Ep13 Jul. 3, 1997

Captured by the Summoner, Paul must convince Riana's mother to help him escape. In a last effort to stop Paul, Ashka damages the Summoning Tower, and Paul is forced to take Riana with him as he finally makes his way back home.

Lost and Found

S1, Ep14 1995

Distracted by a world that is entirely new to her, Riana finds herself lost in Sydney. Believing that Paul is suffering from exhaustion and amnesia, his father assumes that Paul has imagined his story about the Spellbinders and Riana.

Hospitality

S1, Ep15 1995

Riana is injured trying to get away from the authorities and at the hospital, a psychiatrist takes an interest in her. Paul tries to recharge the power suit to convince his father that he's telling the truth.

Breakout

S1, Ep16 1995

Paul decides to use the power suit to get past security and break Riana out of the hospital, not realizing how much damage it can cause. At home, Paul tries to keep Riana hidden, but her unfamiliarity with his world makes it difficult.

The Trojan Toffee Trolley

S1, Ep17 Jul. 31, 1997

Christine agrees to help Paul hide Riana, but it becomes more complicated when Riana insists on going to school with them. Correon reaches the castle and exposes the truth about Ashka, but she manages to escape before she can be punished.

Run!

S1, Ep18 1995

On the run again, Rianna is reunited with Josie and Ben and tries to help Josie to find her father. Paul contacts Correon to make the arrangements for Rianna's return, but Ashka is not far away and follows Correon to the Summoning Tower.

Reunions

Riana finally gets to go home, insisting that Paul goes with her to visit her family once more. But Ashka learns how to open the portal between the worlds and kidnaps Riana to learn more about Paul's world before she goes there herself.

Alien Invasion

Paul returns to his own world and disables the doorway, unaware that Ashka is already there. Ashka is mistaken for an alien when she leaves a trail of destruction behind her as she tries to track Paul down and learn about his world.

The Hunt for Ashka

Paul, Alex and Katrina try to track down Ashka by monitoring the electromagnetic energy emitted by her power suit. When Katrina finds her, Ashka tricks her and, tempted by the chance to visit Riana's world, Katrina agrees to help her.

Clowning Around

Paul and Alex track Ashka down to her hotel and destroy the power suit, but Ashka escapes. Ashka returns to her own world to obtain the designs from the ancient Spellbinders in the hope that they can be improved in Paul's world.

The High-Tech Power

After Riana escapes from the old castle, she follows Ashka back to Paul's world and tries to find Paul. Ashka visits Paul's father and shows him the designs for the power suit, encouraging him to build a more advanced version of it.

A Spellbinder in the House

Paul sneaks Riana into his father's lab with the video camera, determined to prove the truth, but when Ashka uses her new power suit to disrupt the video and kidnaps Riana, Brian's left thinking that Paul is crazy.

Breakfast of Champions

S1, Ep25 Sep. 25, 1997

Paul, Alex and Katrina set out to rescue Riana, but a nosy neighbor calls the police who catch Alex and Katrina. Paul shows his father the video of Ashka and introduces Riana, finally convincing him of the truth.

Flight

The race is on to rescue Christine and get the flight controller before Ashka gets there. With help from Alex and Katrina and even Katrina's mother, Ashka is finally cornered and defeated.
