Synopsis:
Very important events happened in 1956 and they also affected the Italian Left. 1956 was the year of the 20th Congress of the Soviet Union Communist Party (CPSU), of Khrushchev's "secret report" and the consequent dramatic events that took place during the Autumn in Poland and Hungary. In Hungary, people's demonstrations suddenly turned into a real massacre. Almost 30.000 insurgents died. The Italian Communist Party (PCI), basically aligned with Moscow, found the Soviet intervention in Hungary as something sadly necessary to push back the counter-revolution, while the Socialists of Nenni openly condemned the intervention of the Red Army. Passing through the 1956 historical events and the Italian Left following debates, the documentary tries to bring to life again the general atmosphere of that October, fifty years ago.
