Synopsis:
This 3-DVD set contains two feature films of Andrew Kotting, and 15 of his short films...

Gallivant:
When British filmmaker Andrew Kotting decided to tour the perimeter of Great Britain with his grandmother Gladys and his daughter Eden, he brought a film crew along. The result is this often humorous and picturesque documentary. Much of it features the travelers interacting with the native villagers who gladly share a story, a bit of colorful philosophy or sing a traditional song. One of Kotting's motives for the journey was to have a final lark with the 80-year-old Gladys and to spend precious moments with Eden, who suffers from Jouberts Syndrome and may die before reaching maturity.

This Filthy Earth:
British independent filmmaker Andrew Kotting directed this drama that was loosely inspired by a novel by Emile Zola. Francine (Rebecca Palmer) and her sister, Kath (Demelza Randall), inherited their family's farm after the death of their parents, and together they've worked hard to keep the farm productive and profitable. Kath is a single mother whose boyfriend, Buto (Shane Attwool), has a unpredictable and sometimes violent disposition. Kath loves Buto, but his past behavior has earned the enmity of Francine, and she's not at all happy when Kath announces that Buto has finally asked for her hand in marriage. While Kath is delighted about the upcoming nuptials, it turns out Francine was right not to trust her future brother-in-law, as Buto's interest in marrying Kath is primarily motivated by a desire to lay claim to their farm. This Filthy Earth was screened in competition at the 2001 Edinburgh Film Festival.

Gallivant:
Kotting, his grandmother and his daughter Eden set out together to travel the whole way around the coastline of mainland Britain, starting and finishing on the South Coast. Eden has learning difficulties and speaks in sign language, so some of the film is subtitled. Granny gets sore feet. Together they have adventures, meet lots of characters, eplore fishing villages, get to know each other. Knotting films the journey like Koyaanisqatsi. Clouds race across the sky, tides rise and fall, landscapes are bathed first in sun, then in shade. Much of the dialogue, the little conversations people have when they know each other well and just enjoy being together, floats about this epic imagery of the sea and sky, bringing a majesty and a poetry to both.

This Filthy Earth:
Sisters Francine and Kath live and work on the family farm, inherited from their parents. Their lifestyle is threatened when Kath's violent boyfriend Buto proposes marriage, hoping to sneak his way into ownership of the sisters' homestead.
