Synopsis:
A girl struggles not to make the same mistakes that have tainted her mother's life in this drama from Israel. Or (Dana Ivgy) is a high-school-age girl living in a small Tel Aviv apartment with her mother Ruthie (Ronit Elkabetz). Ruthie has spent most of her life working as a prostitute, but with her health on the decline, Or has been forced to become the primary breadwinner in the household, washing dishes, cleaning an apartment building and collecting deposit bottles to help pay the rent when she's not busy with her studies. While Or has lined Ruthie up with a job as a domestic, Ruthie hates the work and finds herself drawn back into her life on the street, much to her daughter's displeasure. Meanwhile, Or has fallen in love with Ido (Meshar Cohen), a boy from her school, but Ido's mother knows what Ruthie does for a living, and doesn't approve of her son dating the daughter of a prostitute, especially as Or finds herself increasingly attracted to Ido. Or (My Treasure) was the first feature film from Israeli writer and director Keren Yedaya.

Ruthie is a stunning woman in her early 40s; she lives with her daughter Or in a small Tel Aviv flat. After spending twenty years earning her living as a prostitute, Ruthie listens to Or's pleas and takes a job as a cleaning lady in an upper class house. Overcome with joy at her mother's decision, Or alternates between mindless jobs--washing dishes in a restaurant, cleaning staircases, collecting deposit bottles--and spending time with Ruthie. Their lives seem set to improve. While Or takes on a protective role in her mother's universe, both women share moments of strong intimacy and treat each other as equals. Whether showering together or sleeping under one blanket, Ruthie and Or grow inseparable; with each other, their emotions stay solid and intertwined. But as poverty and depression slowly re-enter their lives, Ruthie goes back to the streets of Tel Aviv's poorest neighborhoods. Her decision impacts Or, who has fallen in love with the son of a neighbor but is forced by the boy's mother to keep a distance from him. However, it is Ruthie who bears the biggest risk. She has now turned prostitution into a path to self-destruction. Disillusioned with her own life and unable to change her mother's precarious path, Or is now willing to do anything in order to improve their current situation.

Ruthie and Or, a mother and her daughter, live in a small Tel Aviv flat. Ruthie has been a prostitute for the last twenty years. Or has tried many times to have her quit working the street, but without success. The daily routine of the 17 year-old Or is an endless succession of petty jobs : washing dishes in a restaurant, cleaning staircases and collecting deposit bottles while attending high school whenever she can. Ruthie's health is worsening. After an umpteenth visit to her mother at the hospital, Or decides that this time, things must change for good.
