The Bush Tucker Man - Stories of Survival

Major Les Hiddins, better known as 'The Bush Tucker Man' has spent a lifetime travelling through the more isolated parts of Australia, gathering knowledge and tracking down uniquely Australian tales of survival, mystery and courage. His adventures led to the creation of the extremely popular ABC TV series, The Bush Tucker Man - Stories of Survival.

Bush Tucker Man Series One

Join Les Hiddins for 8 classic episodes from his popular ABC TV series 'Bush Tucker Man'. Travelling throughout the Top End, the Bush Tucker Man collects information on how to survive on foods sourced only from the natural environment, demonstrating how even in remote deserts and on sandy beaches, fresh food and water can be found if you know where to look for it.

The Bush Tucker Man - Stories of Survival - The whole series, eight stories, includes:

The Coffee Royal Affair: Les travels to the West Australian coast where Sir Charles Kingsford Smith's reputation was damaged following one of Australia's earliest aviation disasters.
The Cannibal Convict: In the wilds of south-west Tasmania, Les looks at the story of one of Australia's earliest prison escapees Alexander Pierce.
The Best of them All: Follow the footsteps of the determined explorer John McDouall Stuart who became the first European to cross the continent from South to North.
The Dutch Settlement Les follows clues across Australia to investigate a report made last century about a Dutch colony that was established in Central Australia following a shipwreck.
Gold Fever Les travels to Central Australia to investigate discoveries that claim to throw new light on the legend of Lasseter's lost reef.
The Passionate Prussian Les looks at Leichhardt's phenomenal journey from Moreton Bay to Port Essington and the mystery of his final disappearance.
The Great Misadventure The tale of Burke and Wills is re-evaluated and Les speculates how a knowledge of bush tucker may have changed the outcome of this ill-fated party.
Into the Vilest Country Les travels to the Cape York Peninsula in a manner that contrasts strongly with that of the cumbersome Kennedy expedition.

Bush Tucker Man Series One

Disc One - From Arnhem Land to the Kimberley Ranges In the first four episodes of the series, the Bush Tucker Man takes us into the heart of Arnhem Land where the Aborigines of Ngukurr reveal their bush tucker secrets. From there he moves to the northwest of the Northern Territory during the wet season, through some of the most arid desert country in Australia to the heart of the spectacular Kimberley region.
Disc Two - From the Rainforests to Cape York In these four episodes, Les travels through the most northern rainforest in Australia at Iron Range, the northern Queensland coastline and the Gulf Country, through to the west coast of Cape York where the first known sighting of Australia took place by Europeans.
Warning: Viewers should exercise caution when watching this DVD as it may contain images of deceased persons.
