Synopsis:

Set in Lisbon in 1917. A prostitute becomes the object of desire for a rich banker who is planning a right-wing military coup while being investigated by an idealist journalist. The background is of a real-life hoax in which Portuguese peasants claimed to have seen the Virgin Mary.

Set in 1917 Portugal, a prostitute meets a wealthy banker who offers her the chance to leave her job at the brothel.
