Synopsis:
On New Year's Eve 1944, American pilot Mike Clarke inadvertently bets Al Capone's nephew $10,000.that he can shoot down 5 enemy aircraft. Later, forced to land near a remote village in Ireland after running out of fuel, Mike learns that he is cut off from the rest of the world with no way to rejoin the war and shoot down his fifth plane, which is the only way he can win the bet and save his own life. With nowhere to go, he eventually befriends the colorful villagers and meets a fiery red-head named Maggie who shows this pilot that combat can take place on the ground just as well as in the air. It doesn't take long for Mike and Maggie to grow close as she helps him figure out how to win his bet while winning her heart in the process.

Chicago Nightclub New Years Eve 1944. Lt. Mike Clarke celebrates the night before shipping out to Europe as a fighter pilot. After too many drinks he meets a stranger, Vito Massucci, who suckers him into making a $1,000 bet. The terms dictate that Mike must become a "war ace" by shooting down at least five enemy aircraft. However, after sobering up Mike realizes the figure was changed to $10,000 (enough to buy a nice house in those days) and also that Vitos uncle who witnessed the contract- was none other than the notorious Al Capone! The beginning of an absurd and exiting adventure.

Waiting for Dublin' is great to look at, if not so much to listen to or think about. On a modest budget, it makes the most of its setting, a picturesque Irish village, and its period, World War II. That it was written by Chuck Conaway and directed by Roger Tucker seems beside the point. The real artists here are the cinematographer Marc Felperlaan, who burnishes the picture with a rich, warm glow; the production designers Crispin Sallis and Alan Farquharson, who fashion a charming, lovingly realized look; and the various set dressers and costume designers who contribute to the whimsical, gently heightened reality of the story. That story is not without its charm, at least on paper.
