Synopsis:
Les Solitaires / The Lonely:
Pierre's wife, Madeleine, is dead, but he still sees her in his dreams. One day, his younger brother, Baptiste, comes back to live with him. A new life is possible, but Eva, Baptiste's wife, comes back and divides the two brothers.

Ni d'Ève, ni d'Adam / Neither Eve Nor Adam:
In this downbeat French drama, a relationship between a pair of outcast teens leads to tragedy. Gilles is a 14-year-old troublemaker unable to grasp the notion of socially acceptable behavior. He has a crush on Gabrielle but expresses it by robbing and humiliating her until she pushes him away. At home he torments his sister. One day he goes too far and ends up on the street where he barely survives. Seeing his pathetic state, Gabrielle takes pity upon him. The two get into a scrape with the cops and flee to an abandoned farmhouse in her mother's car. It is there that the twosome find their greatest joy and ultimately, their greatest sorrow.

Fantômes / Spirits:
At the start of the new millennium, mysterious things are going on in Paris. People are disappearing without explanation. They vanish into thin air and are never seen again.

Le Doux amour des hommes / Man's Gentle Love:
Inspired by the life and work of late 19th century writer Jean de Tinan, Jean-Paul Civeyrac writes and directs Le Doux Amour des Hommes (Man's Gentle Love). Filmed in Paris, young Raoul (Renaud Becard) is a writer who wishes to find love. He first falls for Jeanne (Claire Perot) and spends the bulk of his time lounging around with his circle of friends and sleeping around.

Toutes ces belles promesses / All the Fine Promises:
French filmmaker Jean-Paul Civeyrac directs the drama Toutes Ces Belles Promesses (All the Fine Promises), loosely based on the novel Hymnes l'amour by Anne Wiazemsky. Jeanne Balibar stars as Marianne, a young Paris cellist mourning the recent death of her mother. When she discovers that her late father had a mistress, she casts aside her boyfriend Atienne (Renaud Becard) in order to find her. It turns out that the mistress is also a musician, a pianist named Beatrice Marquet (Bulle Ogier). Marianne and Beatrice strike up a strange and tender friendship while reminiscing about the past and playing Edith Piaf songs on the piano. Marianne also reconnects with her family's maid Ghislaine (Valerie Crunchant) before returning to her home in Paris. All the Fine Promises premiered at the 2003 Toronto Film Festival.

À travers la forêt / Through the Forest:
At times, this Gallic ghost story recalls the middle-period films of the American director Hal Hartley, namely his French art-house pastiches; even so, this slight fiction does periodically enchant. Written and directed by Jean-Paul Civeyrac, 'Through the Forest' centers on a young woman, Armelle (Camille Berthomier), enveloped in despair over the recent death of her boyfriend, Renaud (Aurlien Wiik). The story, such as it is, traces Armelle's drift between the real world and the memory world, and her possible entry into an unearthly realm. This ethereal, wounded soul mourns, visits a psychic and decides that the beautiful Hippolyte bears an uncanny resemblance to her dead lover. Which, because Mr. Wiik also plays this character, he most surely does. Always watchable, the film ends with a knockout image that points to a depth of meaning generally absent from the proceeding 60 or so minutes.

La Vie selon Luc / The Life According to Luc:
Luc lives in the suburbs. The youth is both a hooligan and a prostitute. One day, the man who loves him offers him a job. Is he going to accept it? |
Tristesse beau visage / Sadness Beautiful Face:
We see how Orpheus seduced Eurydice.
