Synopsis:
Ko Chun (Chow Yun-Fat), the God of Gamblers has retired from his professional life of high stakes. He and his wife are now living in suburban Canada and preparing for the birth of their baby. Challenger, intent on capturing Ko's title as 'The God of Gamblers', plots to force Ko out of retirement by murdering his wife in cold blood. Ko promised his dying wife that he would lie low for a year and abstain from irrational acts to avenge her death. However, Challenger stalks Ko everywhere he goes. Obsessed with the title of 'The God of Gamblers', Challenger hunts Ko from Canada to the scenic West lake in China. Finally in Taiwan, the promise of his one year abstinence is up. What will Ko do?

This thriller, directed by Jing Wong, resurrected the subgenre of the Hong Kong gambling film. Do San (Chow Yun-Fat) is a slick professional gambler on a seemingly endless winning streak. On his way to defeat a rival in a card game, Do's streak comes to a close when a head injury leaves him brain-damaged. Reduced to the mental capacity of a child, his friend 'Knife' (Andy Lau) and Knife's girlfriend Jane (Joey Wong) are left to care for him. They soon realize that his gambling abilities have been left intact, and in a series of events reminiscent of Rain Man, Do makes a comeback. Yun-Fat, who gained international reknown as an action hero in such thrillers as The Killer and Hard-Boiled, shows a surprising amount of range in this departure from his usual role.

Ko Chun vows to keep his identity hidden while looking for the gangsters who murdered his pregnant wife, in Wong Jing's sequel to his action/comedy classic.
