Synopsis:
LARS (Mikael Persbrandt) and SUSANNA (Lena Endre) have been married for twenty years. They love each other dearly and together they have created a secure, happy existence with well-paid jobs, a large house, two cars and a daughter who is about to move away from home.Life has turned out just as happily and comfortably for Susanna's best friend ANN (Maria Lundqvist) and her husband ULF (Jakob Eklund), who will also shortly be celebrating their twentieth wedding anniversary. One evening when the two couples are having dinner together, SUSANNA tells the others about an adulterous colleague. The story provokes strong reactions that cause a dramatic showdown among the couples. SUSANNA and ULF think adultery is a natural, inevitable risk in any marriage. LARS and ANN, however, completely repudiate the very idea of adultery and are shocked by the open-mindedness displayed by their other halves. After dinner LARS and ANN find themselves alone for a moment. Their rejection of infidelity has suddenly brought them closer. Perhaps they dont know their other halves as well as they thought? Or perhaps their marriages aren't nearly as happy as they had supposed? These questions send the two couples on an emotional journey that turns their lives and marriages upside down.

A happily married couple discovers just what kind of lasting implications a simple conversation can have after bringing up a taboo subject over dinner with friends and discovering a division they never knew existed. Lars and Susanna have been married for years, yet their love today is as strong as it was the first day they locked eyes. They both have great jobs, drive nice cars, and share a spacious home with their teenage daughter -- who is about to strike out on her own. Susanna's friends Ann and Ulf serve as almost a mirror image of herself and her husband; both are highly intelligent, financially secure, and extremely well-spoken. One night, as the two couples sit down for dinner together, Susanna steers the conversation toward the affairs of a close colleague. Much to Susanna's surprise, the topic elicits fierce reactions from her dining partners. As the debate about the subject grows increasingly passionate, fundamental splits are revealed that may run too far and too deep to mend. Could it be that the future relationships between these longtime friends -- and perhaps even the couples themselves -- have finally reached the breaking point after so many years of contentment and joy?

Lars and Susanna have been happily married for years. They both have interesting jobs that pay well and there are two nice cars parked outside their spacious house. They lead a happy family life. Soon their daughter will leave home, but Susanna and Lars will be able to cope. They've got plenty of plans. Susanna's friends Ann and Ulf lead similar lives. They too have been married for almost twenty years. Financially secure, intelligent and eloquent--the encounters with Ann and Ulf are always a particular pleasure. Over dinner together one evening Susanna begins to talk about one of her colleague's affairs. Quite unexpectedly, her company gossip prompts fierce reactions on the part of her listeners. The happily married couples begin to argue. Before they know it, they have moved beyond general moralizing to talk on a more fundamental, personal level. What do they have after twenty ostensibly happy years of marriage? Things that seemed undisputable during all those years together suddenly don't mean anything any more.
