Synopsis:
A retiring police officer (Dabney Coleman), not wanting to take any risks during his last eight days on the force, refuses to make a rooftop leap in pursuit of a criminal. However, a mix-up makes him think he is dying and when he finds out his insurance policy requires him to die in the line of duty before it pays out to his family, he begins to take extraordinary risks and make miraculous arrests.

Comedy in which an American policeman nearing retirement mistakenly believes that he is dying of a blood disorder, his test results having been mixed up with those of a bus driver. On discovering that he is only covered by his insurance policy if he dies while in the line of duty and wanting to leave enough money after his death to enable his son to go to Harvard, he sets about getting himself killed during his remaining few days of work.

A policeman who tries to get himself killed in the line of duty because he thinks he's dying anyway.
