Synopsis:

French crime drama based on a year in the life of notorious French criminal Jacques Mesrine, played here by Nicolas Silberg. Beginning with his escape from prison in 1978 after 20 years in the top security wing, the film follows Mesrine as he goes on the run, notching up an astonishing number of brutally violent crimes as he goes.

This fictionalized account of the outlaw life of Jacques Mesrine may be a run-of-the-mill crime drama, but it does not sanitize or glorify the hoodlum in any way. As Mesrine makes his prison break, engages in robberies and kidnappings, and systematically wounds a captured journalist who he found personally offensive, he is shown to be aggressive, angry, brutal, and humorless. This is a far cry from many media reports about Mesrine and is harsher than the documentary on his activities that appeared several weeks before this film by director André Genoves was released.

Mesrine was the foremost criminal, public enemy N°1, the man most wanted in France, guilty of 39 crimes. 'In the police or newspaper history, Mesrine broke all records'. The film begins with his escape on May 8, 1978. Mesrine was the only man to escape from La Santé. We relieve the 18 crazy months he spent on the run and his encounter with Sylvia who is swept into his madness.
