Synopsis:

Starring and directed by Roberto Benigni, Dante is a simple fellow, who is happy in his job as a school bus driver, but feels his love life could be improved. When Maria, a beautiful and sophisticated lady becomes enamoured of him, and asks him to join her in Palermo, he can't believe his luck. Dante doesn't know it, but his uncanny resemblance to Maria's gangster husband, Johnny Stecchino, is about to land him in situations bordering on the ridiculous.

Comedian Roberto Benigni wrote and directed this Italian farce, in which he stars as Dante, a bus driver who is the exact double of the infamous gangster Johnny Toothpick (Benigni again). After Dante meets Johnny's girlfriend Maria (Nicoletta Braschi), he travels to her Palermo villa, where it quickly becomes apparent that Maria is setting up Dante to take the fall for Johnny's illicit behavior.

Dante, a bus driver for handicapped children, is discovered by Maria to be the spitting image of her Sicilian gangster boyfriend, Johnny. Maria lures Dante to Palermo in the hope that he will be killed by a hostile mob instead of Johnny.
