Synopsis:
Set in modern-day Britain, Harry Brown follows one man's (Sir Michael Caine) journey through a chaotic world where drugs are the currency of the day and guns run the streets. A modest law-abiding citizen, Harry Brown is a retired Marine and a widower who lives alone on a depressed housing estate. His only company is his best friend Leonard (David Bradley). When Leonard is murdered by a gang of thugs, Harry feels compelled to act and is forced to dispense his own brand of justice. As he bids to clean up the run-down estate where he lives, his actions bring him into conflict with the police, led by investigating officer DCI Frampton (Emily Mortimer) and Sergeant Hickock (Charlie Creed-Miles).

Academy Award-nominee Daniel Barber (The Tonto Woman) makes his feature directorial debut with this gritty critique on contemporary British society starring Michael Caine as an elderly shut-in who's spurned into action by a senseless act of violence. Harry Brown (Caine) resides in a desolate public housing apartment block as his sickly wife lies dying in a local hospital. He spends most of his days in solitary, only getting out to play the occasional game of chess at a nearby pub with his best friend Leonard (David Bradley). The days of basic human decency seem to be a thing of the past, because in recent years barbarous drug dealers and gangsters have overtaken the dilapidated complex. Killing is a way of life for these young thugs, and as a result overburdened detectives Frampton (Emily Mortimer) and Hicock (Charlie Creed-Miles) are essentially relegated to knocking on doors and notifying parents when their children have been killed in the latest fracas, instead of investigating the crimes and jailing the guilty parties. When Leonard is murdered just feet from his own apartment, former Royal Marine Harry puts the skills he learned while fighting the IRA to take on the aggressive chavs that have intimidated the police into inaction.

Harry Brown is a widowed ex-marine whose retirement is disrupted when a gang of vicious thugs take over his neighbourhood and murder his best friend. Deciding enough is enough, Harry Brown swears vengeance on those responsible and sets off on a mission to clean up the streets.
