Synopsis:
A German stage actor finds unexpected success and mixed blessings in the popularity of his performance in a Faustian play as the Nazis take power in pre-WWII Germany. As his associates and friends flee or are ground under by the Nazi terror, the popularity of his character supercedes his own existence until he finds that his best performance is keeping up appearances for his Nazi patrons.

In early 1930s Germany, ambitious stage actor Hendrik Hofgen cares little for politics and lives only for his art. But when the Nazis begin their rise to power, he seizes the opportunity to perform propaganda plays for the Reich and soon become Germany's most popular actor. Consumed with fame, Hendrik must now survive in a world where the ideology of evil is the ultimate drama and the true cost of a man's soul becomes the most shattering measure of all.
