Synopsis:
Fourteen-year-old Robbie lives in New Brighton across the River Mersey from Liverpool with his mum, Lynda and pain-in-the-neck nine year old sister, Katie. Ever since his dad, Joe, walked out when Robbie was just four years old, Robbie is a boy defined by the absence of a father. Ten years on, Robbie still feels hurt, angry and lost. Despite Lyndas failed relationship with Katies dad, Katie at least gets to see her dad every weekend, a part-time relationship which Robbie covets. All Robbie has ever wanted in life is a dad. Instead, he gets something very different...a son.

In this British drama, a 14-year-old boy's own attempts at parenthood give him a better understanding of his relationship with his often absent father (Ian Hart). Rebellious teen Robbie (Kyle Ward) has little contact with his own child, but a violent incident with another teenager spurs him to take the child with him on the run. BAFTA award-winner Brian Percival makes his directorial debut with A BOY CALLED DAD.

When he becomes a father at the tender age of 14, Robbie's life quickly spirals out of control. Feeling angry and neglected by his own dad, he kick-starts a series of events that will catapult him at great speed into adulthood.
