Synopsis:
Black comedy, based on a true story and set in 1968. Idealistic Communist Frank decides to move from Bingley, Yorkshire with his family to the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). Wife Dorothy suppresses her doubts, whilst Frank soon finds that the ideal Socialist society he envisaged does not exist. Instead the family are affected by bureaucracy, paranoia and surveillance. Dorothy befriends a young boy called Otto, and finds herself caught up in helping him escape to the West.

Based on the true story of Frank Ratcliffe, a Marxist from the north of England who drags his family with him to live in East Berlin in the mid-1960s, only to realize later that life in the communist bloc is not the idyll he had imagined. His wife of 17 years, Dorothy Ratcliffe, is thrown by life behind the Iron Curtain but battles to keep the family together.

This is not a Love Song director Billie Eltringham returns the the helm to tell this comedic tale of a 1960's-era clan of British communists who choose to leave their beloved Britain to seek out Utopian bliss in East Germany.
