Synopsis:
Rafe Spall plays struggling sports journalist, Pete. Although well meaning, Pete sometimes lacks the emotional maturity required to deal with life's more intricate problems. He often wishes that life had clearly defined rules, like sport. But life isn't like sport, as Pete is only beginning to find out. Pete's life is commented on, as if it was an exciting sporting event, by two professional sport commentators, anchor man Colin King, and former international footballer Terry MclIroy. Colin and Terry discuss and analyse Pete's cock ups with accompanying statistics, on screen graphics and slow motion recaps.

Season 1
Season 1, Episode 1: Eco Warrior
Original Air Date-6 August 2010
Sports commentators Colin and Terry give a blow-by-blow analysis as young would-be sports journalist Pete Griffiths lurches from one disaster to another. Wanting out of attending friend Rob's stag party in Amsterdam as annoying bride Anna will be going too he claims he won't fly as it causes pollution, impressing environmentalist by-stander Chloe, who takes him to lunch with her progressive, vegetarian parents. It is a disaster. Bribing Anna with a present intended for Chloe's mother's birthday,he gets an audition for her brother's television sports show but blows it by commenting on their somewhat incestuous behaviour. At a party given the happy couple by eco-warrior hunk Jake, Anna exposes Pete to Chloe as a gas-guzzling meat eater who feigned his green credentials to get into bed with her.
Season 1, Episode 2: Fankoo
Original Air Date-13 August 2010
At a party Jake tells Pete that his child-like girlfriend Rachel - who says Fankoo rather than Thank You - sticks her finger up his bottom during sex. Pete promises to keep the confidence but tells their friends, leading to Rachel dumping Jake and ending up in the sack with Pete when he goes to apologize, though his tactlessness sends her back to Jake. However Pete is responsible for splitting up another mate Ollie from his girlfriend after a drunken night out leads to the loss of the expensive trainers she has given Ollie.
Season 1, Episode 3: Older Woman
Original Air Date-20 August 2010
At an art auction Pete meets 50-year old Ros,who is attractive, wealthy and urbane as well as being sex-mad,foul-mouthed and married to the glowering Duncan, though she insists that theirs is an open marriage. Duncan's disapproval,a disastrous visit to his parents with Ros and the feeling that he is her kept man drive Pete away from Ros and back to the forgiving Chloe. He tells her that Ros is his auntie and asks her to his birthday party. Here his lies come back to bite him as his distraught 'auntie' turns up demanding sex. Furthermore the girl who jumps out of his cake is Anna, who has just heard him betray a confidence she told him.
Season 1, Episode 4: Marriage of Convenience
Original Air Date-27 August 2010
Feeling guilty for causing Anna's father Barry's cardiac arrest,Pete allows his Zimbabwean flat-mate Kurt to talk him into a marriage of convenience to Kurt's girl-friend Minikin. She will get a visa and Pete will get a thousand pounds. Sadly Minikin does not conform to Pete's idea of loveliness whereas Barry's hospital nurse Jenny does and it's Jenny who's in bed with Pete when the immigration officer calls. A quick-thinking deception is called for but a mistimed visit by Pete's parents ruins everything.
Season 1, Episode 5: Ollie's Girlfriend
Original Air Date-3 September 2010
Ollie's girlfriend Trish takes a shine to Pete and gets him a job on 'Sick As a Parrot',a magazine run by her boss Giles, though editor Tony hates what Pete writes. The job is,however, dependent on Giles believing they are a couple and, once more, the appearance of Pete's parents leads to an elaborate series of lies which scuppers the illusion,as does Pete being caught in a compromising position with another colleague,Janet.
