Synopsis:
Which is the world's fastest animal? The best swimmer? The strongest weight lifter? The animal kingdom's athletic champions are revealed at this spectacular animal version of the Olympics to coincide with the 2004 international event. The world's creatures, representing different regions of the world, compete for gold, silver and bronze in the real Olympic stadium. BBC sport's commentators impart facts and figures about the various performances, as if discussing human athletes. The competition is fierce.

As the human world gathers to stage the Olympic Games, this programme looks at what would happen if animals were to do the same. Competitors from the mammal, bird, insect, herptile and fish nations are scaled to human size as they compete in Olympic events. On screen BBC sport graphics impart facts and figures, with commentary from John Motson and Jonathan Pearce.
